Brityn Lois Butrick was a light in the Turlock, CA community, a woman whose grace and strength left an indelible mark on everyone she met. On January 15, 2026, at the age of 42, Brityn completed a courageous four-year journey with cancer, leaving behind a legacy defined by faith, family, and an extraordinary capacity to love.
A child of many passions, Brityn grew up with a book in her hand, a song in her heart, and a spirit for adventure—whether in the kitchen or at the piano. Her lifelong devotion to the culinary arts began early; while helping at her parents’ 2nd generation La Morenita restaurant, she could often be found watching the Food Network and meticulously preparing dinners for her siblings. This wasn’t just a hobby; it was the beginning of her soul’s mission to nourish others. Her visionary leadership was instrumental in helping her family expand their legacy with the opening of La Mo Café.
Beyond the restaurant, Brityn lived life to the fullest. She found peace fishing in the Sierra Nevadas and challenged herself through cycling and running marathons. Yet, even more than her accomplishments, Brityn was defined by her “endless caring heart.” Even in her most painful moments, she masked her struggle behind a radiant smile and hauntingly beautiful eyes that offered comfort to those around her. Her profound inner strength was anchored in her unwavering faith, the bond of her family, and the tireless, unconditional love of her mother.
Brityn’s world found its true center when she became a mother to her daughter, Marin Claire, and her son, Mateo Cruz. Her greatest joy was building a home for them and her adoring husband, Matt—a sanctuary filled with laughter, the aroma of good food, and a love that knew no bounds.
Brityn will be remembered for the way she filled every room with light, her passion for cooking with her children, and a spirit that remains as vibrant as the life she lived. She was, and will always be, simply unforgettable.
